Abstract
With the recent advances in instruments and techniques, laparoscopic procedures have extended to neonates with congenital anomalies. Authors reports a 18-days old girl with Hirschsprung¡¯s disease, treated successfully by the laparoscopic one-stage Duhamel operation. The technique and its potential role in the treatment of Hirschsprung¡¯s disease are described. One camera port and three working ports, including a 12-mm port for Endo-GIA stapler were used for access to the peritoneal cavity. The descending and sigmoid colon were dissected and mobilized laparoscopically. The colon was divided and pulled behind rectum and side to side anastomosis was completed with Endo-GIA stapler. Postoperative course was uneventful. Authors concluded that Duhamel operation for Hischsprung¡¯s disease can be performed safely with the laparoscope.
